December 30, 2009, press-conference, the Chairman of the Supreme Court talked on fulfilled activities for the representatives of media. Up to 50 representatives of TV-radio and print media were attending the meeting.
As Konstantine Kublashvili stated on the final press-conference, two third of court reform has been accomplished and the new system is under operation.
“The launch of new rule regarding the selection and appointment of a judge, simple, accessible for everyone, creation of clear court system, reform of the High Council of Justice and equipment of court on modern level – these are the main directions where the reform can be considered as implemented”, - pointed out Konstantine Kublashvili on the press-conference.
According to his speech, as a result of implemented activities conducted within the limits of reform, the court trials became more rapid, effective and accessible. Pursuant to the survey, according to the time limits of case trials, Georgia is one of the first one amongst the European countries.
According to the statement of the Chairman of the Supreme Court, the communication with press and society has been regulated at courts. The institute of a speaker-judge has been established, which works effectively. The Chairman of the Supreme Court talked on scheduled reforms for the year of 2010 and announced that the most important issue is a lifetime appointment of a judge, which was reflected in the Constitution of Georgia. The new Criminal Procedural Code will be put in motion for October 1, 2010 and the jurors institute will be established.
For the next year the priorities of the reform will be also equipment of courts with modern technologies and integration of courts in virtual network. Already implemented and scheduled activities will support to increase the quality of justice, in time and more dexterous communication between courts and society.
After the press-conference the New Year reception was held for the journalists. On behalf of the Chairman of the Supreme Court the journalists were granted with symbol gifts for the New Year.
